I’d say 3am is a good time for remixing. My wife wouldn’t say 1am is a good time for a singalong.
So here’s a remix anyway:

The Fuzzplex is finally completed – two custom-made Fuzz Factories (each slightly different under the hood) with a mixer to combine them. Presented here in blue.
For those (like me) who have found Iceland an interesting musical pilgrimage over the past decade or two, here’s a documentary I’m enjoying watching:
Everything Everywhere All the Time on Vimeo
(It’s free to watch for the next couple of weeks.)
Welcome to our music video for Welcome Self Control, filmed at the Winter Night Market on 29 July 2016. Heaps of thanks to Freddie at Inspire Films for his awesome work!
For the first time, Fight the Kipple will be performing live! Come along… I’ll be playing about 10 songs, starting at 8pm. View the facebook event for more info: https://www.facebook.com/events/1612818399030194/
Have a happy Easter! Thanks to my friend Kelly for playing flute on this track.
A couple of interesting experiences in the studio this past week: recording a flute for my latest song, and recording a whole choir – of myself…
Okay, this is a pretty dry video on modular synthesis (fine if, like me, that’s your thing) that I was watching the other day…. Then suddenly, at about 17:50, a sample of a moose grunting is loaded up and put through a ring modulator! Brilliant.
There’s something musically very interesting about prime numbers. While so much music is built around 4 beats to the bar, it’s nice to branch out into 3, 5, 7 or 11 for a change. The other day I even caught myself rocking out with a riff that was a group of 13….
Man, I love my China cymbal! It’s like an alchemist’s perfect blend of thunder and lightning, forged out of bronze (probably deep inside a mountain somewhere).
It had me almost falling backwards off my seat yesterday as it exploded under my drum sticks….
Had a good day today: working on the mix of my latest song OR trying to hunt it down in the forest of sound….
The 808 drum machine… 30 years and still going strong – it must have something magical on the inside…. (And even if you don’t know an 808, you will have heard it lots!)
Just tried playing drums to a couple of my songs. Let’s just say I don’t think I’ll be playing those beats any time soon!…
A flickering florescent light has turned the studio into a post-apocalyptic dance venue. All I need now is a bit more concrete and kipple, a few sparks here and there, and some clothing accessories made out of old tyres, bits of plastic and stuff.
Been really enjoying the Akai iMPC app on the iPad! Feels like I shoulda joined the MPC Revolution years ago – like I’m wandering around Cuba looking for Che….
I think I invented a new form of procrastination the other day: instead of finishing writing a song, I arranged it for a String Quartet (but definitely think Kashmir by Led Zep rather than Mozart)….
I pulled out the acoustic guitar the other day – after years of disowning it for not sounding like Ben Harper. And it still doesn’t sound like Ben Harper (funny that!) – but there was definitely some magic. So welcome back, acoustic guitar!
Scientists have “discovered” the optimum beat to make people dance: a regular rhythm, but with something a little unexpected. ‘Course I’ve never been much of a dancer myself….
1 cup of Hopeful mixed with a pinch of Mellow, served over tasty Beats.
